About
Atom is a functional training experience for your garage, home, or gym designed for RPM Training Co. This essential equipment is combined with a daily training program, dynamic virtual classes, and a digital platform to follow along with to allow the user to meet their own personal workout goals, anywhere they are.
Concept Development
I spearheaded the design of the entire family of products in this kit. Each product was its own unique design challenge culminating together to create the story of the complete family of products. Each piece plays a pivotal role in the entire ecosystem of this functional home gym experience.
A Family of Products
All of these products were designed with functionality as the primary generator. Each product carries similar design traits to one another and maintains an intuitive cohesion. I pulled inspiration from adjacent spaces in fashion, automotive design and tech sectors, while incorporating and evolving RPM’s existing brand language.
Dumbbell
Designed with barbell-standard grips and “squircle”-shaped heads, the dumbbell provides contact-point comfort mid-workout and dynamic instability for balance training.
Kettlebell
This design is an evolutionary step forward from the traditional kettlebell form, both aesthetically and functionally. These black cast iron kettlebells feature a flat face to sit comfortably against the forearm, redesigned with single-piece construction and competition form factor design.
Gym Rings
An Olympic-style grip paired with an iconic aluminum fixed attachment point make this ring design the perfect tool for everything from muscle-ups to rows.
Mobility
Built with a rigid internal tube for structural integrity, combined with external EVA foam for the right amount of give.
Modular Storage System
A custom storage solution for the Atom gear. Strong, lightweight, and easy to hang, the modular arms work in conjunction with a variety of attachments to neatly hang everything from dumbbells and kettlebells to a barbell and bumper plates.
Final Product
To build the Atom equipment kits, we looked at each essential piece, analyzed current industry norms, and then determined how we could make it better. The result is a combination of intentional reinvention, inspired reinvigoration, and total design coherence. The Exobox, dumbbells, kettlebell, adjustable pull-up bar, and rings are all re-engineered to push the previous limits of these categories. The sandbag, barbell, plates, and accessories were carefully designed to meet or exceed industry standards, while staying true to their necessary functionality and blending seamlessly into the look and vibe of the Atom experience.
